The Seven Gables Inn is a boutique hotel in the heart of Clayton, Missouri providing comfortable and convenient accommodations with the intimacy of a bed and breakfast.
Located a short fifteen minutes from Lambert Airport and ten minutes from downtown St. Louis, our Inn is nestled amid specialty shops, art galleries and the area’s finest eateries. The bustling Clayton business district is also home to more than 80 Forbes and Fortune 500 businesses.
Built in 1926 using the Tudor Revival style, the Seven Gables Inn was remarkably sophisticated for its time. Originally it contained 27 apartments, 4 offices and 4 storefronts.
Steep roofs, a massive chimney, tall, narrow windows and decorative half-timbering are just some of the Tudor influences found at Seven Gables Inn. It is a combination commercial-residential building that has had no major additions and offers a majestic escape within the city. It is one of the few remaining buildings that reflect the development of Clayton in the 1920s.
Seven Gables Inn was developed by Captain Gunther Meier and Norman Comfort, partners in the firm of Hawke and Comfort, with the help of architect Daniel H. Mullen. The architect’s con, Dan J. Mullen, recalls a 1926 view from the building: “There were mostly woods to the west, as far as one could see, all the way to Brentwood Boulevard.”
In 1985 the Seven Gables building was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places in and renovated in 1986 by the Balke group. The once residential property, turned law office, turned store front has evolved and withstood the test of time. Today 26 North Meramec accommodates guests at the Seven Gables Inn and Molly Darcys Irish Pub.
