WINTER
A quiet time in the Valley, when the crowds have faded and a blanket of snow hushes life’s dull roar to a whisper. The mountains beckon backcountry skiers with the promise of fresh powder while cross country skiers take delight in making first tracks in newly groomed snow. Families strap on their snow shoes for a walk in snow-covered woods or climb aboard a horse-drawn sleigh just to see what dashing through the snow really feels like. With the magic gift of snow, winter in the mountains creates opportunities that can’t be duplicated any place else—or in any other season. Come enjoy the snow with us!
SPRING
Snow takes its bow for another season and the birds return, heralding the promise of renewal. Mountain spring has arrived. Wildlife stirs. Rivers run wild, and life emerges everywhere. The month of May brings the most spectacular show of the season, with brilliant yellow sunflowers covering the hillsides and wildflowers of every color keeping them company. Hikers and cyclists are out enjoying the first hints of warmth, and rafters are treated to the thrills of a lifetime on the Methow River. Everything is alive again.
SUMMER
Warm, sunny days, starry nights. Welcome to summer in the mountains of the North Cascades! Hiking trails in the Valley and foothills are open by June, and most of the high country trails are accessible by July. Mountain lakes are teeming with fish, mountain biking is in full swing, as are horseback riding, trail running, road cycling, rock climbing, swimming and boating. You might have to work at it, but if you try really hard, you may be able to fit it all in over the course of your vacation!
FALL
No need to travel to Vermont to see fall colors. People in Vermont should actually come here to see the showstopper colors along the North Cascade Highway! Hiking this time of year is at its peak, fly fishing is in season and most all of the summer activities are still in full swing at least through October.
