Our Door is Always Open
Granny Frances had an open-door policy. Her back screen door creaked and thudded with each visiting, always-welcomed guest. A steaming cup of caffeine, an open ear, and an open heart perpetually awaited her visitors. At Granny Frances’s, we were always home.
In this spirit, The Frances Modern Inn exists. As the world gets more virtual, we get more personal. We are a cozy boutique hotel and event space where old style purposefully meets new to remind us of the things worth embracing. We’re an intimate haven for seekers of wisdom, explorers of culture, wanderers from near and far. Here – comfort, calm, and a curiosity about others meet to create a sense of belonging
ROOMS + SUITES
The Grandmillenial design of the hotel embraces old meets new. Each room, featuring a rich, jewel-tone color palette and curated artwork by local artists, has a unique personality.
Curiosities from around the world are found throughout the hotel: brass door knockers from Morocco, woven vintage rugs from Turkey, intricate textiles from India, fringed velvet lampshades from the UK, and bold floral wallpaper from Romania. New fixtures are thoughtfully mixed with vintage art and accents. Every detail, from handpicked vintage glassware to hand-sewn velvet drapery, is designed to be a moment for indulgence.
For your safety and convenience, we use keyless check-in technology so you can head directly from car to room without lines, while our staff focuses fully on making you feel at home.
Work, play, rest; all our rooms feature complimentary parking, Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, mini-refrigerator, desks and shared patios for toiling and gathering.
THE NIEGHBORHOOD – EAST AUSTIN
East Austin – designated as East of highway I-35 – is a historic Black community, where local arts, business, and community thrived in the absence of city-wide resources since the early 1900s. Today, The Frances Modern Inn is humbled to be welcomed into this rich community on East 11th, where small, diverse businesses continue to bloom and nourish the curious adventurer.
Just across the street you’ll find the historic Victory Grill for classic soul food and unmatched musical acts. The adjacent food-truck park offers food options from street tacos to Jamaican. The famed Franklin Barbecue joint welcomes you with a merry line of salivating diners. Our eclectic neighborhood Chinese restaurant, Old Thousand, will give you the good food sweats with modern interpretations of American-Chinese classics. Be sure to grab a cocktail at Nickel City, undeniably a true local’s watering hole with national acclaim. Or peruse the shelves and sip some vino at the newly opened Vintage Bookstore and Wine Bar.
And that’s just on our street. Come explore the rest of historic East Austin, neighboring downtown which welcomes the new Moody Center arena, the newly developed pedestrian park, The Waterloo Greenway, and our city’s countless other convenient cultural destinations.
